I work with young adults in high school & college/graduate school, adults and family systems. I provide a warm, hand in hand, down to earth, relatable way of working. My strength is in meeting clients where they are while providing a guiding hand through a process that involves empathic listening and reflective questioning which facilitates insight into the thought process, somatic responses, dream analysis, and parts of self.
The National Center for Biotechnology Information notes that integrative therapy, as the field is known, works much better than a single form of therapy alone. I have extensive knowledge in many therapeutic modalities and lean towards a multimodal approach. Modalities leveraged most often but not limited to: Attachment-based, Internal Family Systems, Existential, Jungian, Narrative, Person-centered, Psychodynamic, Strengths based and Somatic.
My work is through a trauma-informed lens as we each have had varying levels of trauma (Big "T" assault, witnessing violence to Little "t" non-life threatening emergencies such as location moves or friendship breakups) that make an impact on us. These impacts can create imbalances within that play out in complicated ways in our daily lives. To navigate this imbalance, my approach is similar to a functional medicine professional with a focus on the mental mind, the physical body, and the inner self with the goal of all three working in harmony together.
I have been trained in EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing- Basic I &II through EMDR Professional Training by Dr. Curt Rouanzoin and offer this modality as an adjunct therapeutic treatment for traumatic experiences. This empirically validated treatment for trauma is a series of 75-90-minute sessions whereby the clinician leverages hand movement and tapping to desensitize and re-process painful trauma(s) and memories associated. https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/
I have been trained in MBSR - Mindfulness Stress Based Reduction- through UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health and offer this modality as an adjunct therapeutic treatment. Created by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, this technique uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness, yoga, and exploration of patterns of behavior, thinking, feeling, and action. https://jonkabat-zinn.com/
Multicultural counseling seeks to understand how cultural and identity issues impact an individual's mental health. Specific areas of focus: religion/spirituality, neurodiversity, sexual identity, socioeconomic, race and ethnicity differences. In working with diverse populations, I seek to be culturally aware and provide a non-biased, judgement free space for therapy.
I am a Reiki Master and offer this modality as an adjunct therapeutic treatment. Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.
In taking Peter Levine's Intro to Somatic Experiencing, I believe our physical body holds many of the answers to our therapeutic journey. Understanding how and why our physical body reacts is an essential part of the healing journey. Just as Bessel van der Kolk states in his book The Body Keeps the Score, “Long after the actual event has passed, the brain may keep sending signals to the body to escape a threat that no longer exists.”
I offer tele-therapy services for individuals in California and Virginia residents. Tele-therapy sessions are conducted securely and confidentially through a HIPAA compliant platform.
